wool Industries Australia (WIA)

Wool Industries Australia Inc. (WIA) is an association representing Australian organisations involved in all aspects of the wool industry. This includes production, selling, merchanting, processing, spinning, weaving, testing, and research & development of wool and allied fibres, as well as associated service providers.

WIA serves as the Australian National Committee for the International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO)—the only independent global body overseeing wool trade and industry regulations since 1927. IWTO’s mission is to establish wool as the world’s sustainable, accessible, and premium fibre, suitable for applications ranging from high-end fashion to safe and healthy interiors.

Each year, approximately 95% of Australia’s wool production is exported to international markets.

The Australian Wool Industries Secretariat provides administrative support to Wool Industries Australia (WIA), formerly known as the Federation of Australian Wool Organisations (FAWO).
